4332.0 Community Campaigns to Fight Obesity: Leveraging Media through Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW)Tuesday, November 1, 2011: 2:30 PM
Oral
One in five Americans lives in cities, towns, tribes, and rural areas awarded Communities Putting Prevention to Work grants. Media is one of the required strategies for communities to prevent and reduce the obesity through policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) changes. This panel will showcase the lessons learned during the first year of CPPW while implementing media strategies as integrated components of PSE efforts in communities big and small, urban and rural. A few areas discussed include media mix, evaluation, and leveraging media dollars. The attendees will be encouraged to join a discussion of what works and how the lessons might be applied and sustained in communities with limited budgets and resources.
Session Objectives: 1. Identify four media strategies to reach a variety of audiences and advance policy, systems, and environmental efforts.
2. Describe how lessons learned can be adapted and apply to other areas.
3. Discuss two pitfalls to avoid when implementing media strategies.
