Wednesday, November 2, 2011: 10:30 AM
Oral
Part 1 of the workshop will explore effective inter-professional collaboration to identify program gaps, that can be systematic, process based, or as a result of communication errors. Participants will be introduced to root cause analysis (RCA) developed by engineering to identify systems errors and discover how to apply RCA to public health program evaluation and public health challenges. Root cause analysis uses many techniques and is one method of program evaluation whereby a series of questions are asked that assist teams indentifying root causes and new strategies to improve programs. The use of qualitative methods developed in the social sciences for program evaluation will also be discussed.
Session Objectives: 1. Identify two strategies to incorporate inter-professional principles, root cause analysis, and social scientific qualitative methods into program evaluation. 2. Describe root cause analysis using the Ishikawa technique or fishbone diagram. 3. Describe key word identification/ categorization of qualitative data and its use in historical program document review as a technique of program evaluation.
