Poster
In this poster session, studies addressing women’s health disparities in vulnerable populations will be presented. Incarcerated, homeless, and marginally housed women are at higher risk of poor health outcomes than the rest of the population. Health care needs of women living in marginalized communities will be discussed as well as the impact of state and federal policies on the health of incarcerated women. Breast and cervical cancer disparities in screening and survival among racial and ethnic minority, rural, and underserved women will be discussed. Predictors of adherence to recommended screening intervals, innovative strategies to improve screening in rural areas, and differences in preferred cancer treatment will be discussed. Other topic areas include violence against women and the availability of public health surveys to identify trends in women’s health disparities.
Session Objectives: Identify predictors of breast and cervical cancer screening, treatment, and survival in racial and ethnic minority women;
Describe the health concerns of vulnerable women, including homeless and marginally housed women; and
Explain how the availability of public health surveys may enhance the ability to identify sources of women’s health disparities.
