Standardizing Public Health Profession in Indonesia and Beyond

Indonesia is in progress to achieve her MDG goals, and some show promising, but no all. Problems are rooted to low ability of public health workers in all levels. There are more than 180 public health higher education programs, unstandardized and only 50% accredited. Based on that situation, the Indonesian Public Health Association in collaboration with Association of Public Health Higher Education, and supported by Ministry of Education starts Health Professional Education Quality Program (HPEQ) supported by the World Bank. However, some issues are remain, including standardizing public health competencies globally, anticipating free trade, bordeless higher education and global market.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: As the President of Indonesian Public Health Association (IPHA), one of my responsibility is related to developing and maintaining high quality competencies of public health workers. Since 2011, the IPHA, with the support of government, has started the Health Professional Quality Education (HPEQ) with 2 objectives, i.e., (a) developing accrediation system for more tha 180 PH study program, and (b) establishing national exam for PH graduates.
