This scientific session sponsored by the APHA’s Council of Affiliates provides an overview of the new $60 Million Massachusetts Prevention and Wellness Trust. The leaders behind the inspiration and implementation of the trust will highlight MA PHA’s role in its creation. The trust builds on the effective Mass In Motion program and connects global payment contracts with prevention related quality outcome measures. Included are examples of MA PHA's coalition building and advocacy efforts. Paramount to the success and sustainability of this program are effective outcome measurement components and the competitive grant process administered by the Department of Public Health. The Massachusetts example will foster a more global discussion of prevention, outcomes, and the Affordable Care Act. A renowned public health expert will then give a national perspective on how state affiliates can collaborate to achieve the overall goals of the Affordable Care Act.

Session Objectives: Describe the new $60 Million MA Prevention and Wellness Trust Fund Identify at least one crucial component to an outcome evaluation program. Explain one way your state’s public health affiliate can collaborate in achieving goals of the Affordable Care Act.
