Discuss the value of using simple production skills and imovie to empower individuals to produce public service announcements as a form of health promotion

Saturday, November 2, 2013 : 1:50 PM - 2:40 PM

Linda Bergonzi-King, MPH , Yale New Haven Health System Center for Healthcare Solutions, New Haven, CT
The purpose of this learning session is to provide health practitioners with the opportunity to engage in the video production process from beginning to end – storyboard, film, edit, product, and upload a video to YouTube -- using non-professional equipment. Everyday equipment such as cell phone cameras and free movie editing software are capable of producing professional looking videos. The magic is in the editing. Sound plays a major role in the ethos of the video. Having a good control of sound is one of the most important aspects of the video production process. Individuals will learn how to educate their community and the world with one YouTube view at a time. A case study will be used as part of the workshop. The images from the case study are filmed using a non-professional digital camera. The video will be edited using iMovie, which is available for free on all Apple computers. YouTube is used to host the video.
