Saturday, November 2, 2013: 1:30 PM - 5:00 PM
LI Course
CE Hours: 3 contact hours
Statement of Purpose and Institute Overview: The purpose of this learning session is to provide health practitioners with the opportunity to engage in the video production process from beginning to end – storyboard, film, edit, produce, and upload a video to YouTube -- using non-professional equipment. Having an idea to promote behavior change will stay as just an idea if proper methods to promote the idea are not being used. Everyday equipment such as cell phone camera and free movie editing software are capable of producing professional looking videos. The magic is in the editing. Sound plays a major role in the ethos of the video. Having a good control of sound is one of the most important aspects of the video production process. Individuals will learn how to educate their community and the world with one YouTube view at a time. A case study will be used as part of the workshop. The images from the case study were filmed using a non-professional digital camera. The video was edited using iMovie, which is available for free on all Apple computers. YouTube is used to host the video. Step-by-step demonstrations will be provided during the workshop in order for individuals to be able to film, edit, and produce public service announcements on their own cell phone or tablet. Public service announcements are great tools for children and adults to raise awareness of an issue. The software iMovie is very user-friendly. Participants will practice uploading their videos to YouTube. The uploading process can be completed within minutes. The video is ready instantly for viewing once it is uploaded to YouTube. Individuals will walk away from the workshop feeling empowered and ready to explore the art of video making.
Session Objectives: Discuss the value of using iMovie to empower individuals to produce public service announcements as a form of health promotion Describe the value of high quality images and sound to enhance messages List effective social media channels to communicate with priority populations
