Dr. Roger Casey is the Director of the VA’s National Homeless Providers Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program, and Tampa Site Director and Director of Education, for the VA’s newly established National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans. Dr. Casey holds a Doctoral Degree in Public Health and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He has worked with homeless programs since 1986; from providing direct services for the population to designing national research initiatives reviewing best-practice housing and case management models.
From 1987 through 1994, Dr. Casey coordinated the Health Care for Homeless Veterans programs at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center, in Tampa Florida. In 1995, Dr. Casey moved to Washington, DC, to serve as Director of VA’s National Homeless Providers Grant/Per Diem Program. From 1995 through 2009, the Grant/Per Diem Program awarded over 400 capital grants to non-profit and local government agencies to create transitional housing for homeless veterans. Currently, there are over 11,000 community-based beds in supportive housing facilities nationwide to assist homeless veterans as a result of the program.
