Biographical Sketch: Xóchitl Castañeda is the Director of the Health Initiative of the Americas (HIA), at the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley. HIA has coordinated the Binational Health Week for 12 consecutive years, one of the largest mobilization efforts in the Americas to improve the health of Latin-American immigrants. A medical anthropologist by training, Xóchitl was educated in Guatemala and Mexico, and has twice been elected as an advisor to the Institute for Mexicans Abroad.
