Innovative research on cancer prevention and control among women: Confronting and eliminating disparities

Sunday, November 3, 2013: 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Poster
Cancer disparities in both prevention and treatment persist in spite of abundant research and programmatic efforts to address them in diverse populations. This poster session not only spans statewide cervical cancer policy, prevention and control efforts, but also presents results of interventional studies focused on improving breast and cervical cancer screening among minority and other underserved women. Issues especially relevant to breast cancer survivors will also be discussed.
Session Objectives: Describe the cancer disparities that continue to exist among various racial, ethnic and demographic groups. Discuss the barriers encountered when attempting to address such disparities in breast and cervical cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Describe at least one intervention or program focused on improving cancer screening and explain its impact on the population of interest. Identify additional opportunities to promote cancer screening in underserved populations.
