Open-access online resource on the evidence of the effectiveness of chiropractic care
Methods: The R3C is an open-access online resource on the current evidence of the effectiveness of chiropractic care organized by topic and stored on the CCGPP website. The 17 topics represent conditions commonly seen by doctors of chiropractic (DC) and topics on which CCGPP receives frequent requests for information. A librarian conducted the primary literature search in PubMed, Index to Chiropractic Literature, Cochrane Library, and MANTIS to locate English-language articles on the efficacy and effectiveness of chiropractic and/or chiropractic manipulation related to the specific topic from January 2008 through August 2013. The primary search was limited to systematic reviews, meta-analyses and guidelines. Additional searches were used to identify randomized controlled trials RCTs) or lower levels of evidence, if higher levels did not exist. Articles older than five years were used when the primary search did not identify newer ones.
Results: A total of 84 articles are included; 63 reviews, 17 guidelines, and 4 RCTs. The project team developed a brief summary and bibliography for each topic. The bibliography included live links to either full-text or abstracts, depending upon availability. The topic lists will be updated on a quarterly basis.
Conclusion: The R3C is a readily accessible source of information about chiropractic.
