Amy Hill, MA , Center for Digital Storytelling, Berkeley, CA
In this presentation, I will facilitate a combination of pairs work and large-group discussions, to support Institute participants in applying the ethics framework laid out by Aline Gubrium to their own work. I will ask participants to pair off and complete a step-by-step planning document to identify strategies for addressing Gubrium’s ethics categories -- Fuzzy Boundaries; Recruitment and Consent to Participate; Power of Shaping; Representation and Harm; Confidentiality; and Release of Materials related to multi-purposed work – in the context of projects they may currently be undertaking or may be planning to undertake. I will invite several pairs to share the contents of their planning documents with the larger group, with time for questions and discussion about best practices in ethics for digital storytelling as methodology for community-based participatory research in public health.
