In this presentation, I will guide Institute participants through several personal writing and story sharing exercises, to provide them with an experiential understanding of digital storytelling methods. First, I will ask participants to respond to one of several writing prompts, during a 10-min. free-writing activity. Next, I will ask participants to pair off and share their writing with each other, with time for feedback and discussion using a set of specific questions. Then, I will ask the pairs to talk about how their writing might change, if they knew it would be shared publicly, in a public health education or advocacy context. Finally, I will invite participants to share with the larger group what the experiences of writing, story sharing, listening, offering feedback, and considering the implications of making personal narratives public were like. I will conclude with time for questions and discussion.
