The Center for Behavioral Health and Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ), Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) make its data widely available through print publications, publicly accessible data files, online statistical tools, and for authorized researchers, access to confidential data.  This workshop will describe the variety of CBHSQ behavioral health data sets and how CBHSQ makes it available.  The workshop will focus on data access through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) website.  Demonstrations of how the data can be download, using online statistical queries and map generation will be covered.  Special emphasis will be placed on creating tables from confidential data and CBHSQ’s newest system for accessing confidential data called the Data Portal.  The Data Portal application process, its features and security requirements will be presented.

Neil received his Ph.D. in sociology from Arizona State University with a focus in survey research.
