The dilemma of the obese patient with heel pain is examined in this presentation and how continued heel pain prevents the patient from being able to exercise and lose weight.  The diagnosis of heel pain both through history and physical examination will be discussed and then the importance of a comprehensive, evidence-based treatment discussed. This will allow the healthcare professional to understand the importance of treatment to allow for continued obesity therapy via exercise with a non-symptomatic heel.

Learning Areas:

Implementation of health education strategies, interventions and programs
Other professions or practice related to public health

Learning Objectives:
Explain the dilemma of how the obese patient suffering from heel pain is unable to exercise which perpetuates weight gain and worsens heel pain. A comprehensive evidence-based approach to the treatment of heel pain will be discussed. This treatment plan will demonstrate the importance of heel pain resolution and long-term treatment can aid the obese patient in establishing an exercise program for weight loss.
