Between 2008 and 2013 the Health and Safety Department of the United Steelworkers International Union conducted several surveys of local union officers and health and safety representatives to assess the issue of underreporting of job injuries and illnesses and employer practices that discouraged workers from reporting injuries. This presentation will share data from these surveys, identifying trends, describing impacts of these employer practices, and exploring the implications of what we have learned for government policy and regulation.
