The use of Environmental Public Health Tracking data has proven to be an unmatched resource when coupled with biomonitoring– the measure of environmental chemicals in people’s blood, urine and other fluids. While Tracking looks at how contaminants in the environment impact a community’s health, biomonitoring determines contaminants in human specimens. This presentation will illustrate how state programs in Minnesota, Washington, Wisconsin and Utah benefit from joint Tracking and biomonitoring efforts. Specifically, the paper will demonstrate how programs can paint a more holistic picture of environmental exposures in a community. Finally, the paper will highlight lessons learned from the aforementioned states and offer recommendations for how other jurisdictions can develop successful collaborations between Tracking and biomonitoring programs. A successful partnership between epidemiologists and analytical chemists can determine successful health outcomes by improving public health practice and policy.
