Clipper Clinic
- Facilitating collaborative, equitable involvement of all partners in all phases of program planning
- Building on community strengths and resources.
The long term goal of clipper clinic is to reduce health inequities in underserved communities. This goal is accomplished by;
1. Fully Engaged Partnerships that breaks down the silos between academic, community clinics, HMO, and community barbershops.
2. Participant Awareness and Knowledge Building by providing biometric screenings, finding a medical home through warm hand referrals to low cost health care resources and providing evidence based health promotion and education.
3. Assessing and Responding to Community Health
A screening results data collection tool and a satisfaction survey were used to asses community need. The events satisfaction evaluation tool showed that 91% (n=189) thought Clipper Clinic was excellent or very good and a useful service. Screening data indicated the blood pressure screening as being the only one utilized by almost 100% (n=189) of all participants, and that 65% of those had blood pressure numbers that were in the prehypertension/hypertension range.
As a result of these findings;
- Funding was secured to design a blood pressure intervention program led by barbers
- Due to how well the program has been received by the community and barbers, topics covered have been expanded to include cancer.
