In July 2013, the Alzheimer’s Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Healthy Aging Program released The Healthy Brain Initiative: The Public Health Road Map for State and National Partnerships, 2013–2018. This Road Map provides specific actions the public health community and partners can take to address Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive health, and the needs of caregivers over the next five years. The action items of the Road Map are presented across four domains which align with the Essential Services of Public Health.

As part of the efforts to implement the Road Map, the Alzheimer’s Association partnered with Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice to conduct a comprehensive implementation campaign in Missouri for one year. An assigned class of Masters of Public students in the Health Policy Capstone course, undertook a full-scale effort to engage the public health community on cognitive health.

This presentation will describe the best practices and lessons learned from this work, including messaging strategies and partnership successes. Additionally, the session will detail the overall evaluation of the effort and provide tools and resources for individuals and communities interested in adopting Road Map strategies in their own states.
