Information was collected from eight LMIC countries: Nicaragua, Vietnam, Tanzania, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Albania, Yemen, and Ghana, to assess their readiness to implement National Comprehensive Cancer Control Programmes (NCCP). The impact of the PACT Programme, as measured by the development of an NCCP, progress in disease surveillance, links with prevention and early detection programs, establishment of palliation programs, additional investments of equipment and services, and NCCP coordination was determined, since PACT began working with each country (most started in 2006).

In all eight countries, the International Atomic Energy Agency's PACT Programme used its role in equipping countries with radiation therapy and palliation as an entry point to mobilize the other components along the cancer control continuum. The political context for NCCPs differed in each country, making some components easier to build than others. Each country had successes in certain activities, and some successfully built an NCCP integrated into their Ministry of Health. Details on the countries' accomplishments will be presented.
