Grants are a critical tool for the Federal Government – and especially for health-related agencies. Government is under tremendous pressure to manage grant making effectively and efficiently, while also demonstrating results and the impact of funded programs. But how should a public health organization, state or local health department, or other recipient manage its grants programs to increase impact? What role can performance data play in improving the impact of grant dollars? This presentation will describe a framework and guiding principles to employ: start with a clear understanding of how to make a difference, draw on existing evidence, collect the right data, provide flexible solutions, support better use of data, and involve blended funding models where possible.  In addition, this presentation will introduce low-cost tools that programs can explore to support the framework and guiding principles described above. The presentation will walk through a comprehensive grant lifecycle, identify best practices, and provide case study examples that will help program managers and leadership make data-driven decisions and demonstrate lasting impact on health outcomes.
