Transforming health care systems to create “zero suicide” care

The most innovative suicide intervention initiatives are those that have adopted a “zero suicide” approach to improve the care and outcomes for individuals at risk for suicide in health care systems. This session will describe the bold and collaborative efforts of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance), the public-private partnership advancing the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, to promote widespread adoption of this “zero suicide” approach as a priority activity for reaching the Action Alliance’s goal of saving 20,000 lives in five years. The session will highlight the Action Alliance’s partnership development, expanding learning collaborative of systems adopting this approach, and comprehensive online toolkit that offers resources that build upon early-adopting systems’ outcomes and lessons learned related to cultural and systems change, safety and performance improvement, workforce development, and suicide assessment, intervention, treatment, and follow-up practices.
