Purposes

Globalization is a trend in nursing education. The International Nursing Visitor Program (INVP) was the first initiative to provide international nursing students with a global view to understand health care delivery system in the US. The purpose of this project is to introduce the Logic model in planning, implementation, and outcome evaluation for a global nursing education partnership program, INVP.

Methods

A logic model was developed for the INVP by the planning committee for the purpose of program planning, implementation, and evaluation. There were three phases of this project including, planning- program conceptualizing and design, implementation, and evaluation.

Results

The INVP has been implemented for three years since 2011 and totally 48 Taiwanese students were involved. Senior nursing students from international partner university were invited to apply for the INVP program. To reach the objectives of the INVP program, 48 senior Taiwanese students were exposed in different learning experiences including in in-class learning, shadowing clinical experience, various health care delivery site visits, simulation lab, and cultural exploration. A Process evaluation, fidelity, outcome evaluation, student and faculty comments were used to assess the quality and effectiveness of program.  Evaluation results showed that the INVP was implemented with fidelity to their original intent and design.  Also, results indicated that all program objectives were met and students and faculty rated highly on the INVP.

Conclusions

The logic model framework can be used successfully in program planning, implantation, and evaluation and also can be a useful project management tool.
