The Commonwealth Medical College and East Stroudsburg University were funded by HRSA to provide a joint MD/MPH degree program designed to integrate public health and health care training for physicians that will care for the underserved in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  As the only rural public health training program in Pennsylvania, ESU’s program contributes significantly to the region’s health, through faculty efforts and its contribution to the public health workforce. TCMC, a new allopathic medical school has distinguished itself for its community engaged values and partnerships.  A web portal was developed as an electronic information exchange for students to investigate potential fieldwork preceptors and research collaborators for 12 identified health priority areas (i.e., access to care, asthma; behavioral health; to name a few) within a 12 county wide region of northeast Pennsylvania.   The portal provides information about the duel degree program, along with community health research projects and fieldwork requirements. In addition, Web 2.0 applications including video streaming success stories, a wiki, and twitter link are used to help students identify opportunities for fieldwork, and research collaboration with the public health workforce in the region.  The web portal also serves as an information exchange for healthcare professionals about various services available for targeted areas of need for the region.  The presenters will describe the implementation process to achieve HRSA grant deliverables, and how the web portal has identified resources in the region for future collaborative efforts in prevention.
