Background
Strengthened financial capacity for local organizations in low and middle income countries means streamlined services, increased ability to absorb funding directly from donors, and increased services delivered. The Leadership, Management & Governance (LMG) Project conducted ten workshops, six months apart with 100 participants from five countries. The workshops, benefiting International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) Member Associations (MAs) and local branches, were intended to ensure that IPPF can consistently provide and scale-up quality services to clients.

Between workshops, participants and LMG staff worked together to carry out the action plan set during training one. Follow-up workshops are scheduled, during which participants will update action plans, learn about USAID Regulations, and learn how to apply for direct USAID funding. There will be 1.5 years of support from the LMG Project.

Methodology
The training used the Non-U.S. Organization Pre-Award Survey (NUPAS), the assessment used by USAID to determine whether a non-US organization will receive funding.

Results

Baseline data and post-training data show that the MAs have already begun to strengthen their financial capacity; a third analysis is expected to show an additional increase in capacity.
