Obesity is a national epidemic with wide consequences and cost to America’s health and productivity. Community level interventions are gaining popularity as cost efficient measures to reduce obesity and improve health. In Columbus, partnerships are popping up to increase access to physical activity opportunities in an effort to make neighborhoods stronger and healthier. In this interesting and interactive presentation, an urban planner will provide participants with proven models to promote healthy, active living in their communities. Participants will be introduced to the Healthy Places Program at Columbus Public Health, an innovative program that integrates policy, system and environmental change with health promotion activities to tackle community health from multiple angles.Participants will leave with a clear understanding of innovative methods to increase physical activity, improve community design, establish new norms and encourage community-building.
