Issue: New Orleans and Louisiana as a whole continue to have some of the highest prevalences of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States, which has been a significant public health concern for years. Louisiana reports higher incidence of HIV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea than the national averages.  More specifically, in youth ages 13-24, New Orleans ranked 2nd among females and 3rd among males in HIV incidence rates in national statistics.  Knowledge about STIs and contraception is a recognized determinant of STI risk. This is juxtaposed with the fact that no school-based sex education course currently exists. Description: The mission of the New Orleans Adolescent Reproductive Health Project (NOARHP) is to ensure all public high school students in Orleans have access to age-appropriate, evidence-based, culturally sensitive and comprehensive reproductive health education, leading to safer, more responsible reproductive health decisions.   Begun in 2010, the program has proven sustainability, refining its curriculum and volunteer training each year.  The NOARHP curriculum was designed by program leaders aligned with the CDC effective health education curriculum. NOARHP interprofessional teams are composed of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) students collaborating throughout a co-teaching experience. Lessons Learned: In 2013, NOARHP taught targeted reproductive health education to 215 students at an Orleans Parish high school increasing its total reach to 681 students. Recommendations: Program expansion in 2014 includes to adding a school and implementing an STI screening program. Data regarding program effectiveness with related quality improvement plans are expected to be available.
