Association between Internet Using Level and Subjective Happiness of Adolescents
Objectives:The objective of this study was to examine internet using level and subjective happiness of adolescents in Korea.
Method: We evaluated the subjective happiness level using the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 2009. For this study, descriptive analysis, T test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were performed. SPSS v. 20.0 was used for the analyses.
Results: Main findings were as follows. First, sex, living together with parents, parents education level, and internet using level during the week were statistically significant difference with subjective happiness (p<.001). Second, age(β=-.022), sex(β=-.075), economical level(β=.155), living together with mother(β=.042), mother’s education level(β=.021), internet using level during weekend(β=-.025), school records(β=.100), and internet addiction level(β=-.170) were influential factors about subjective happiness of adolescents (p<.001).
Conclusions: Internet addiction rates of adolescents in Korea increased markedly in recent decades. More intensive intervention efforts to reduce Internet addiction of adolescents should become a priority issue in Korea.
