Laurie Barger Sutter , State Technical Assistance Group, JBS International, Lincoln, NE
This presentation will discuss the use of a comprehensive, results-oriented framework for cross-sector strategic financing/sustainability planning that builds upon the health system assessment and development planning processes. The framework focuses on sustaining outcomes—rather than a particular course of action—over time, and can be used to help health systems at local, regional, state, tribal and national levels acquire and strategically invest a diverse portfolio of funding that: is aligned with priority health outcomes, supports the scope and reach of needed action, and has a manageable and appropriate administrative burden. Because demonstration of effectiveness is a key factor for sustainability, the presentation will include an overview of social and public health outcomes that have been linked to the health system assessment and planning processes and used to inform and support sustainability planning. Participants will review an example of an actual cross-sector, county-wide sustainability plan, and engage in interactive large group discussions regarding core components and key considerations for successful sustainability planning.
