This presentation will afford participants the opportunities to skill-build, role-play, and to put into practical application the strategies, processes, and understandings based on their participation in the presentation. We will focus on the application of knowledge to challenged communities and the members who reside there. Some community engagement and communication examples will include working with public housing authorities, in neighborhoods with high crime and disorder, individuals who themselves are experiencing challenges of all types.  The goal is to practice communication related behaviors and strategies foster cohesion in relationships with extremely diverse partners.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I have 13 years collaborating with underserved communities. I have conducted courses on community engagement and communication since 1999, including The Public Health Institute at the University of Minnesota, The Preventive Medicine Residency Program on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Denver, and the EPA's Community Involvement Conference. My research is published. I teach communication and culture and health communication at Rutgers. I have 16 years expertise in the discipline and in curriculum development and delivery.
