This presentation will provide participants with an overview of how community engagement efforts play a key role in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) through group discussion and case studies. We will identify communication factors at the patient, organizational, community, and policy level to improve the quality of healthcare and increase access to health services as outlined in the ACA.  Some examples include increasing access to primary care among vulnerable populations such as the homeless.  The goal is to illustrate how a communication focus in community engagement is essential to the ACA and ultimately improving health outcomes.

This presentation will be conducted by Brandi White, MPH and Patti Iwaskai, MSW.
