Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is rampant in North America, especially among socio-economically disadvantages populations such as Medicaid recipients. In Maryland, we have witnessed firsthand the tragic consequences of untreated caries in our Medicaid population. Because of this, we have oriented part of our attention and research towards understanding and acting on effective, evidence-based ways to tackle this preventable, yet pervasive chronic disease. We used our findings to develop new oral health educational materials including this video Healthy Mouths for You and Your Baby. This oral health educational video is designed for use with pregnant women and women with young children, and provides evidence-based information about preventing early childhood caries (ECC).  It explains the importance of oral health during pregnancy and how to keep children cavity free.  The video can be used to introduce key oral health messages and to reinforce previous educational messages.
