Adolescent health is a key approach under the National Health Mission (NHM) and The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided unstinting support to innovative locally appropriate approaches for its implementation through the Innovations in Family Planning Services (IFPS) Project (2005-2012). Significant background work went into the designing and implementing two adolescent programs, namely, Understanding and Delivering to Address Adolescent Needs (UDAAN) in Uttarakhand . Collaborative efforts of state governments of Uttarakhand, and on ground NGOs, introduced innovative and effective techniques to increase adolescents’ uptake of health services in the hillystate of Uttarakhand This film documents the journey of the project from design to delivery.

Films that are documentary in nature, intended to capture projects can get high on information and data, deterring audiences rather than getting them interested in the hard work that went into the project in the film.  Thus, a series of decisions were made to make the film effective- the tone of the film was of ‘hope’ and ‘positive change’. This was done by visually exploring the geographical space and social fabric of the projects; capturing the life of the community, contextualising the problem and revealing how the project offered the solution. Interviews with key stakeholders brought the impact perspective and the narration presented the inputs. English sub-titles will be used for international audiences and graphics and clips from existing communication materials were seamlessly integrated into the film. The background music was a fusion of modern and traditional north Indian tunes and folk music from the hilly regions, of ragas/chords that that were positive in feel without being obtrusive or overpowering.
