Place-based strategies are emerging as a critical focus to prevent violence and promote community safety. From land use planning and zoning strategies to fostering social connections and collective efficacy to employment and job strategies, place-based strategies focus both on changing the physical environment and building the capacity of community members. This presentation will focus on the implementation of place-based strategies to promote community safety, including issues of readiness and capacity, community identified priorities and solutions, the need for systems engagement and systems change. The focus will be on lifting up community-driven strategies to transform places to be safe and the underlying systems-level changes in support of that change.
