The short film Liberation tells a story of a mother and daughter reunited after 12 years of the kidnapping of the daughter at the age of four. This kid was kidnapped by the biological American father, while they all lived in Italy (the mother is Italian). Being American, it was easy for the father to leave Italy and enter the US with his daughter without the consent of the mother. The film shows especially what happens afterwards, when the family is reunited and justice is done. It shows the scars and trauma this situation cause to all and how people can (and need to) move on. This film is based on real events, actually it is a mix of 3 stories of people I personally know, and I was very impressed with the way their stories developed in real life which caught my attention not only as a public health professional but also as a mother. I have researched the topic of parental abduction in-depth to learn more about this problem, I found out that it is a major public health problem and it is considered a form of child abuse. Therefore, my film has the intention to discuss the topic of international parental abduction and what can be done to raise awareness within the population about that, to incentive people to report the cases, develop international programs and strategies to help rescue these children, programs to support families from the emotional and even financial point of view and to discuss potential international regulation and laws.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I'm a public health professional, who is very interested to work with communities and families. I'm also a filmmaker (directing degree from UCLA) for films about public health matters. Years ago, someone in my family had her kid kidnapped by the biological father, and I saw her hopelessness, and I got very interested to learn more about this topic from the point of view of a mother and a public health professional to raise awareness.
