Linda Hopkins-Johnson , Women-Inspired Neighborhood (WIN) Network, Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, MI
Discuss our decision to engage women through both digital and high touch methods, and our
lesson learned about needing to engage our CHWs in the social media/technology outreach as
the “faces” and “voices” of our program. The CHWs acted as the perfect medium for
outreach using our preliminary focus groups and interview findings that they want a slightly
older female role model, who has “been through it” to be their source of information, which
holds true via social media as well. Elaborate on our plans to further engage and train the
CHWs in social media and tech outreach moving forward.

Learning Areas:

Communication and informatics
Implementation of health education strategies, interventions and programs
Provision of health care to the public

Learning Objectives:
Discuss the use of digital technology for the CHWs to use in outreach efforts with women.Explain the feedback received from women in preliminary focus groups and interview findings that they want a slightly older female role model, who has “been through it” to be their source of information, which holds true via social media as well.
