The nationally accredited Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and Master Certified Health Education (MCHES) credentials are measures of professional competence of the health education workforce. Both certifications have three components: health education professional preparation, passing a certification assessment, and maintaining continuing education requirements. In addition, the MCHES eligibility requires 5 years of health education practice experience in the field prior to sitting for the examination. Employers in various settings, such as government, healthcare, community, universities, and worksite wellness, are hiring certified individuals to meet health education service needs of the organizations. The presentation will reveal testimonials from employers in different work settings that prefer to hire CHES and/or MCHES and, in some instances, require the certification. In addition, details of organizational policies in place to hire nationally recognized CHES and MCHES will be shared. Lastly, CHES and MCHES will share examples of how the certification has benefited them in their careers.
