Over the last two decades the United States has made great strides in reducing mercury emissions into the environment, yet all 50 states now have fish advisories due to high mercury levels. We will review the leading sources of, and exposures to mercury in the US and policy implications of these exposures; especially in low-income communities and communities of color.

I founded and operated the Connection Coalition for Environmental Justice for 13 years. I have been involved in environmental mercury policy for more than 10 years, and engaged in the negotiations of the Minamata Convention on Mercury in Uruguay and in Switzerland on behalf of the National Medical Association focusing on mercury in healthcare and dental amalgam.
