Drawing on the lessons learned from APHA advocacy efforts during the past 5 years and from other organizations' responses to the Israeli occupation and its effects on the health of Palestinians, we propose a way forward to build APHA support for Palestinian health.

Explain the determinants of population health in Palestine. Articulate the dynamics that make it difficult to discuss this controversial issue within professional associations. Describe the various positions of a number of professional associations and how they came to those positions.
