This presentation will examine the introduce the international movement for boycott, divestment, and sections against the Israeli occupation of Palestine. In 2005, prominent members of Palestinian civil society came together to press for a campaign of boycott divestment and sanctions against the Israeli government's violations of international law against Palestinians. In response to this call, several academic organizations in the US and abroad have passed resolutions to honor the call for BDS. This talk will examine the rhetorical arguments surrounding BDS, explain the motivation behind individuals and organizations that support bds, and will explore some of the material realities of life under occupation that bds is designed to confront.
