Building Health Where the Peace is New: The struggle against mining-interest violence in El Salvador

Founded in El Salvador through community accompaniment using “health as reconciliation” 19 years ago when the peace was new, Doctors for Global Heath continues to work actively with our local partners on issues they prioritize. Many of these issues are global in perspective, some alas deadly in consequence. One example is that Canadian and US mining-interests have proven unhealthy physically and psychologically for local partners of DGH, a situation that has provoked work toward community mental health, international denunciation of threats and murders (including citing trade policies) and unification with other countries mining-interest struggles (through the People’s Health Movement).
