Tuesday, November 18, 2014
: 5:10 PM - 5:30 PM
Gerald Paccione, MD
,
Department of Internal Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY
DGH has partnered with Kisoro District Hospital in remote southwestern Uganda since 2005. This partnership also includes Albert Einstein College of Medicine and its affiliated hospital Montefiore in the Bronx, NY. Residents and students work in this very low-resource hospital and in the surrounding communities. There are multiple community-based projects including training of village health workers, cervical cancer screening, screening for and treating malnutrition, and treating chronic disease. The projects span both hospital and community, engage medical students in global health and accompany the village health workers and their communities.
