Since 1979, Healthy People has provided the foundation for building disease prevention and health promotion policies and programs across multiple sectors, including federal, state and local governments; businesses; academia, etc. Now in its fourth decade, Healthy People continues to serve as a uniting force that aligns various initiatives, policies and programs. This presentation will review the history and key elements of Healthy People 2020, describe how Healthy People 2020 differs from its predecessors. It will explain in detail how the social determinants of health (SDOH) have been incorporated into Healthy People 2020 and the approaches being taken to implement SDOH goals and objectives across the Federal government and among non-Federal stakeholders.
