Edward Ehlinger, MD, MSPH , Commissioner's Office, Minnesota Department of Health, St. Paul, MN
The common narrative about health is that it is determined by personal choices and access to medical care. In reality, the biggest influences are socio-economic conditions that are created by policies, systems and environments which are beyond the control of the individual. These influences disproportionately affect populations of color and low income individuals. This presentation will outline the purposeful efforts in Minnesota to change the narrative about what creates health and highlight the health in all policies approach being taken by state agencies that has evolved from the use of the new narrative.
