Surili Sutaria Patel , Environmental Health, APHL, Silver Spring, MD
Surili Sutaria Patel MS is a Senior Specialist for Environmental Health at the Association of Public Health Laboratories. Her role includes raising awareness of environmental health issues and increasing the visibility of the environmental health laboratory community on a national platform. Surili's portfolio contains building a national biomonitoring network, supporting the expansion of chemical and radiological threat testing capabilities and enhancing the environmental health workforce by managing various competitive scholarship programs. She received her Masters of Science in Biomedical Science Policy from Georgetown University and a Bachelors of Science in Political Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has seven years of experience in public health, five of which were spent in environmental health. Throughout her public health career, Surili's work appears in various publication formats, including a chapter titled 'Beyond Measurement? Evaluating Environmental Public Health: Assessing the Effectiveness of Food Safety Programs' in "Essential Case Studies in Public Health: Putting Public Health into Practice." In her free time, Surili is the Chair of the APHA Environment Section's Program Planning Committee. She is also a semi-professional, Indian classical dancer with the Nrityanjali Dance Ensemble.
