This session will help the public health community understand the ways in which state and local tobacco control efforts can complement and inform the federal regulatory process. Staff from the Tobacco Control Legal Consortium will explain how the public health community can engage in the regulatory process to inform the FDA. At the conclusion of this session, attendees will understand the importance of continued state and local tobacco control efforts to support, supplement, and complement FDA's activities.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am a staff attorney with the Tobacco Control Legal Consortium, a program of the Public Health Law Center. I am the lead attorney for the Center’s FDA Tobacco Project, designed to mobilize the public health community to improve and support FDA regulation of tobacco. I also provide technical assistance to public health advocates around the country as they work to develop strong and effective tobacco control policies at the state and local level.
