Comprehensive messages for safe sleep
Wisconsin will share their work with hospitals to adopt and implement comprehensive safe sleep policies that support the AAP recommendations. In Wisconsin SUID-Case Registry data for 2013 indicated that the majority of SUID cases were related to the sleep environment (76%); of those, nearly 80% were not placed on a firm sleep surface and 90% involved bed-sharing. Research demonstrates that parents rely on medical providers to teach them how to care for their children. As a result, hospitals are sites that are ripe for safe sleep education and modeling.
