ASTHO has partnered with strategic partners to engage with states to develop a leadership community to support a comprehensive approach to Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse by focusing on prevention, treatment and recovery, enforcement, and surveillance. ASTHO completed a 50 state inventory of state policies in each of the categories and will present high level results of the data. Lessons Learned: Recommendations: (1) Engage health care professionals, consumers, families and communities in effective prevention strategies; (2) use monitoring and surveillance to improve public health and clinical practice; (3) improve collaboration between public health and law enforcement; (4) approach addiction as a treatable chronic illness.
