Identify public health priorities for alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs use/abuse. Describe recent challenges and controversies about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs use/abuse. Formulate research and policy actions to address the aforementioned public health priorities.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: My work has focused nationally and internationally on mental health and substance use. I was principal editor and a co-author for the last eight editions of Mental Health, United States, spanning 1987 to 2004. I have produced a very large number of scientific articles and white papers, which have been published in a broad array of peer-reviewed publications. I am well prepared to speak about current issues and future directions in substance use.
