With the increased rate of staff turnover in rural and underserved areas, there is a need to ensure that your staff is up-to-date on new findings and practices in the field. Online learning communities can be a great resource to interact with other professionals interested in the similar topic and to solve problems collectively.  This need for cross-professional learning and knowledge building has given rise to many online communities. Many managers are finding it difficult balancing the time their staff spend participating in these communities and the value to their organization. Many also find difficulty matching the right staff to the right community.

Learning Areas:

Communication and informatics
Other professions or practice related to public health

Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate a basic understanding of learning communities and how they function Determine which online communities are most beneficial to your staff Identify how to get the best value from these communities
